Where did the time go? It feels like just yesterday I was starting my winter training and now it’s time to dust off the cobwebs and get racing again. Banbridge Cycling Club were the hosts of the Annaclone GP today and they did a fantastic job. The event was run flawlessly, a big thanks to all the volunteers and marshals that gave up their time today to make sure that it was a safe race.
There was a handicap on todays main race with the A3’s setting off 1st, A2’s 1 minute behind and then the A1’s a further 2 minutes back. With a strong number of A1 riders today and we caught the combined A2/A3 bunch within 2 of 6 laps and then the attacking began. The attacks went on for the next 4 laps however nothing stuck and it would eventually come down to a bunch sprint.
The constant attacking took its toll on my legs and I was hurting coming into the finish, I managed to position myself well for the sprint and gave it one last leg busting effort to the line. I came across the line in 3rd place behind Craig Rea (Phoenix CC) and Rodger Aiken (ASEA).
I came into this race hoping I had done enough training and a 3rd confirmed that I’m on the right track. On to the Phoenix GP tomorrow where I’m hoping to contest for the win again.
Many thanks to Chain Reaction Cycles and Vitus Bikes for the support.
Until next time…
