Having my staff Christmas dinner the night before could have made today go one of two ways. Plenty of food, drink and good times I had an amazing night with my GF and friends from work. Getting into bed at 2.30 a.m. I knew it was going to be a rough one in the morning!
Waking up I felt surprisingly fresh, I decided to ride over to the race today to get some extra training in. VC Glendale were hosting the final round of the series and after arriving at the track I was really impressed with the work that had gone into setting up the race.
After doing a few laps of the track I knew it was going to be a really tough race. With the overnight rain there was plenty of mud to go around but never the less I was looking forward to getting stuck in.
Whistle blown and we are off! As always the start is flat out and half way through the first lap I had managed to make my way into 2nd place. Knowing there was a quality field of riders behind me I tried to settle into a fast pace and just keep ticking away.
Glen Kinning passed me early on and I was now in 3rd, this is where I would stay for another couple of laps before eventually being passed by Barry Kellett, a man on a mission going for the overall series. I tried to stick with him however he was too strong for me today.
On the last lap I got a short burst of energy and was starting to close the gap to both Glen and Barry but I ran out of time and finished out the race in 4th, and 1st unplaced U23 rider.
I felt today went well and I was pleased with my result. Thanks to VC Glendale for hosting a great event. Congratulations to Roger on the win today, he was in a league of his own, back to the drawing board haha! Full results will be posted once available.
Over and out 🙂
